| Northern Area ~ Ron Bailey Carlisle born and bred, for the past 27 years Ron has been a Newsagent and Subpostmaster in the south of the city, and now runs 3 shops and 2 large post offices. In recent years he has allowed his son to take the lead, but still attends the office daily, as well as pursuing other business interests in the North East. He has been a member of Carlisle South Rotary Club for 18 years, and was president in 1996/7, the year of their Book Aid project, during which 80,000 books were collected. In District he has served on the International committee, organising the Carlisle end of the International Projects Fair in '93, as well as the Membership Services committee for the past three years. As assistant District Secretary in 1999/2000 his primary duties were secretary to the main services committee, when he gained an good insight into the workings of all the service committees. Ron has a number of other interests, but his main hobby outside Rotary is Brass bands. Having played euphonium and trombone all his adult life, he is now President of Brampton & District Silver Band. He keeps fit by running, cycling, walking and swimming, but his love of wining and dining constantly works against his efforts to keep the waistline trim |
