Teaching our children about the dangers of underage drinking is a mission or MADD. The usual way to make an impact is for adults to teach children about those dangers before they encounter a situation where they might make a wrong choice. However, there are times when adults need to be reminded of the very things that we encourage our children to learn. The following should be used as a "refresher course" for adults taught by our children.

MADD Mercer County Chapter

"When you drink and drive it's pretty much like shooting someone in the head because say I was drunk and I had a friend in the passengers seat and we got in a wreck because of me and they died, I would have to live with that my whole life. There has been so many accidents relating to this and maybe we should just take alcohol away."

Whitney Eckermann 7th Grade

"Drinking not only effects the drinker, but the others on the road also. The families of the victims will be torn apart, may lose their jobs, may even commit suicide just to be with loved ones. Alcohol is not a game. If you play, most of the time, you lose."

Amy Fox 7th Grade

"I think that people who drink and drive have a serious mental problem. How could anyone be THAT stupid? If your drunk and you need to get somewhere then let a friend drive you. If nobody's there, then don't leave. It's that simple. If you decide to drive drunk don't let other people pay the price."

Holly Harris 7th Grade

"I think it is dumb to drink and drive because you don't know what your doing and you're just going to hurt yourself or someone else. And drinking and driving is like trying to drive while you're asleep so you don't know what's going on. That's why I think it's bad to drink and drive."

Niki Lecander 7th Grade

"Alcohol and cars is about the deadliest combination I think anyone could imagine. About six out of 10 teenagers get killed by alcohol every day. Do you really want to lose a loved one to drunk driving? Would you want to be responsible for someone else's death? Why drink and drive? Alcohol is in control even if you think you are. But the truth is you aren't. So please don't kill yourself or somebody else. Don't drink and drive."

Melanie Neuleib 7th Grade

"You shouldn't drink and drive because it makes you think different and be stupid by doing something you wouldn't want to do. How can you live if you know you were the one that was drinking and you killed someone you cared about?"

Jenna Winn 7th Grade
